It’s been a busy year, and right now at the end of it is the very most busy, on a copy-editing project for Exalted Funeral. I love and appreciate everyone who reads, comments, and supports my writing.
Games I’m Running
- I’m still running Aurikesh, which has just celebrated eleven years. I ran the 134th session this past week, and I’ve run sixteen sessions since last year’s anniversary post. To avoid some scheduling challenges, I’ve been running shorter midweek sessions online, but I hope we can have some in-person games soon.
- Dragon Heist has finished the actual published adventure of Dragon Heist and we’re a year into my own content. The PCs sailed to Neverwinter and Luskan, with a few stops along the way, and explored Castle Never at some length. We haven’t been able to play in over a month, for scheduling reasons, but I hope we can get back to it soon.
- Kainenchen and I have joined the Plot Committee for Citadel LARP, and we’ve attended a few staff-only events. It’s great to be working on a LARP again, the committee is wonderful, and our website and Discord server went public just a few days ago. If boffer LARPing in the American South is your deal, check this out!
Games I’m Playing
- Altera Awakens – I made it to three of this year’s events, which close out the campaign’s fourth season. Missing as much of this season as I did was tough for me.
- Eclipse – I was devastated to miss one of this year’s events, but the other was a one-day at MJQ that was wonderful. They’ve announced an end to Eclipse’s third arc following the next event; it will be the end of an era.
- Calamity – Kainenchen and I NPCed the Calamity campaign, which has now ended. I got to play lots of wonderful NPCs, and I feel like I learned a lot from the game.
- Alliance – I’ve started a character in Alliance LARP. In 27 years of LARPing I’ve run games based on NERO, but this is the first I’ve played. I’ve been to three events so far – a one-day, a National event, and a three-day – and I’m having a lot of fun with my character and team. I play Cathal Airdh, an elf spellsword of Blackstone Company.
- Tombsday Night is the same group I played Tomb of Annihilation with. I’m playing my githyanki Hexblade, Skara, in this campaign, and we’ve been in the Shadowfell for a long, long time now.
- Stands-in-the-Fire is still running his Tree of Potential 5e homebrew campaign – we’re 7th level now. Scheduling has been hard for a while now, but I remain excited about the story and characters.
- Stands-in-the-Fire is also running Castle Draculas, a very laid-back drop-in-drop-out game where we fight aspects of Dracula. I’m playing Daverin Sunspear, a fire genasi Rune Knight.
- Ethan is still running his 13th Age game, and we’re now 8th level and playing in the epic tier, trying to resolve a complicated matter in an underground city.
- As a backup to the 13th Age game, Ethan runs a 4e game where we are members of the Death Mantis guild, which is goth af. I am the revenant swordmage Sangasu, Who Rends the Word. I’m having a great time with that, and it runs a lot more often than 13th Age lately.
- I’ve played a little bit of Baldur’s Gate 3, but I’ve been so busy that I haven’t yet gotten out of Grymforge in Act One.
- I’ve played a lot of Tears of the Kingdom, but I’ve done more exploring than advancing the plot.
Games I’m Observing
- I’m a bit behind on the Critical Role podcast – I’ve listened through Campaign 3, episode 71. I’m having a harder time loving this campaign than Campaigns 1 and 2.
- How We Roll – I’m enjoying their Kult: Divinity Lost series a lot.
- Wards & Witchcraft continues to be just incredible with its two Mage: the Awakening campaigns. What a lesson in making Mage 2e work, and in running a mind-bogglingly high-powered game.
Thanks for reading and supporting Harbinger of Doom! Tribality released Under the Seas of Vodari this year, and if you haven’t picked up a copy… there’s no time like the present! Also check out my products on DriveThruRPG, and Fey Gifts & Bargains and Level Up Your Background on the DM’s Guild.
Well done! Glad to hear that things are going well.
The Sea of Stars journal hit 14 this year, I just always forget to note it.
Congrats on 14!
